The Griddy dance was created by Allen “Griddy” Davis, a Louisiana native and former high school football player.
Creator and origin
Allen Davis came up with the Griddy in the mid‑2010s, inspired by the Nae Nae and wanting his own signature dance. He first showed it off in high school settings and on social media, where clips of the move started to circulate.
How it got popular
Davis shared the dance with his friend and teammate Ja’Marr Chase, who later brought it to LSU and showed it to fellow receiver Justin Jefferson. Jefferson then used the Griddy as a touchdown celebration in 2019 at LSU and later in the NFL, which pushed the dance into mainstream sports and internet culture.
