The periodic table was created by Russian chemist Dmitri Mendeleev in 1869. He arranged the elements according to increasing atomic weight and noticed a recurring pattern of chemical properties, which allowed him to classify elements into groups. Mendeleev even left gaps for undiscovered elements and predicted their properties, which were later confirmed with the discovery of elements such as gallium, scandium, and germanium. Although other chemists like Julius Lothar Meyer also contributed with similar tables, Mendeleev is primarily credited with creating the modern periodic table and formulating the periodic law.
