who discovered francium

Francium was discovered by Marguerite Perey in 1939 while she was researching the radioactive decay of actinium-227 at the Curie Institute in Paris. She identified francium as a new element when she observed that actinium-227 decayed by emitting alpha particles, resulting in a daughter nucleus of element 87, which she named francium after France, the country of its discovery.
