Titan, the largest moon of Saturn, was discovered by Dutch astronomer Christiaan Huygens on March 25, 1655. Huygens made this discovery using a self-designed 50-power refracting telescope that he and his brother had helped develop to improve observation quality. He originally named it "Saturni Luna" (moon of Saturn).
