Bitcoin was invented by a person or group of people using the pseudonym Satoshi Nakamoto. Nakamoto published the Bitcoin white paper titled "Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System" in 2008 and developed the original Bitcoin software, launching the network in 2009. The true identity of Satoshi Nakamoto remains unknown, and the persona has been inactive in Bitcoin development since 2010.
