The invention of color television is credited to Guillermo González Camarena, a Mexican electrical engineer. He invented a color TV system and patented a "Chromoscopic adapter" for color television in 1940, which allowed color images to be transmitted and received, compatible with existing black and white TV sets with slight adjustments. Camarena's system was one of the earliest and most successful, and he began experimental color broadcasts in Mexico in the early 1960s. Although his system did not become the global standard, it was notably used by NASA in the 1979 Voyager mission to transmit color images of Jupiter.

Earlier mechanical color television systems were demonstrated by others like John Logie Baird in the 1920s and 1930s, but Camarena's work was significant for practical color TV technology development.
