Fanta was invented by Max Keith, the head of Coca-Cola GmbH in Germany during World War II. Due to wartime embargoes that halted Coca-Cola syrup imports, Keith created Fanta using available local ingredients such as whey and apple pomace, leftovers from food industries. This innovative solution allowed the German Coca-Cola operations to keep producing a soft drink, which became known as Fanta around 1940-1941 and later evolved into the global brand known today.
