Morse code was invented by Samuel Finley Breese Morse, an American inventor and painter, in the 1830s. He developed the electric telegraph and then, with his friend Alfred Vail, created the Morse Code in 1838 as a means of representing letters and numbers through a series of dots and dashes, which could be transmitted electrically.
