The soft drink Pepsi was invented by Caleb Davis Bradham, an American pharmacist. Bradham created the original formula in 1893 in New Bern, North Carolina, initially naming it "Brad's Drink." He later renamed it Pepsi-Cola on August 28, 1898, with the intention of marketing it as a digestive aid, combining "pepsi" from dyspepsia (indigestion) and "cola" from the flavor. Bradham opened the Pepsi-Cola Company in 1902 and registered the trademark in 1903.
