The bicycle was first invented by German Baron Karl von Drais in 1817. He created the "Draisine" or "Laufmaschine," also known as the "dandy horse," which was a two-wheeled, steerable, human-propelled machine without pedals. It is generally regarded as the first bicycle, and von Drais is considered the "father of the bicycle." Later developments added pedals, with the first bicycle with pedal crank being invented by Philipp Moritz Fischer in 1853 and further improvements made by others like Kirkpatrick Macmillan and Pierre Lallement in the mid-19th century.
