The Griddy dance was invented by high school footballer Allen Davis from Louisiana in 2018. Inspired by the Nae Nae dance craze, Davis created the Griddy, which involves tapping heels alternately and swinging arms rhythmically. He introduced the dance to his friend and teammate Ja'Marr Chase, who later brought it to LSU, where teammate Justin Jefferson popularized it widely. Jefferson added his own flair, such as forming "OK" symbols around the eyes, which helped boost the dance's popularity to the NFL and beyond, including inclusion in the video game Fortnite.
