who invented the periodic table

The periodic table was invented by Russian chemist Dmitri Mendeleev in 1869. He arranged the elements according to their atomic weight and properties, leaving gaps for elements that had not yet been discovered and predicting their properties. Mendeleev's work built on earlier efforts by chemists such as Antoine Lavoisier, Johann Wolfgang Döbereiner, John Newlands, and Alexandre-Émile-Béguyer de Chancourtois, but it was Mendeleev's table that gained universal recognition and became the foundation for the modern periodic table.
