Annex A of Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) is a condensed version of Part One of the guidance. It is advised for staff who do not work directly with children to read Annex A, while staff who do work directly with children must read at least Part One of the full KCSIE guidance. The decision about whether staff who do not work directly with children should read the full Part One or Annex A is determined by the school or college based on their assessment of what is most effective for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. Moreover, school and college leaders and those staff who work directly with children should also read Annex A, as it contains important safeguarding information tailored for school and college staff. In summary, Annex A is advised for:
- Staff who do not work directly with children (as an alternative to reading the full Part One).
- It may be used as a targeted safeguarding tool by schools for specific groups of staff.
- School and college leaders and staff who work directly with children should read this annex alongside or in addition to other parts of the guidance.
This policy is to ensure that all staff have an appropriate understanding of safeguarding, tailored to their roles, with the school or college deciding which version is most suitable for non-direct staff.
