Antifa in the USA is a decentralized, leaderless political movement known as "anti-fascist." It primarily opposes fascism, white supremacy, neo-Nazism, and far-right ideologies. Antifa consists of various small groups and activists who use direct action tactics ranging from peaceful protests to confrontational measures, including property destruction and physical altercations, targeting far-right extremist groups. Members generally hold left-leaning to far-left political views, including anarchism and anti- capitalism, but the movement is not formally aligned with the Democratic Party. It has no centralized leadership or official membership, functioning more as a broad anti-fascist ideology rather than a traditional political organization. Antifa gained prominence particularly around protests linked to racial justice and opposition to right-wing extremism from the 2010s onward. The movement is controversial, criticized for its militant tactics and praised by supporters as necessary resistance to oppressive ideologies. Recently, it was designated a domestic terrorist organization by President Donald Trump's administration, which has been met with debate about the nature and impact of Antifa.
