Brendan Thomas Carr is an American lawyer and politician who has served as the Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) since 2025. He was born on January 5, 1979, in Washington, D.C. Carr studied government at Georgetown University, graduating in 2001, and earned his Juris Doctor magna cum laude from the Columbus School of Law of the Catholic University of America in 2005. He began his career in private practice, then joined the FCC in 2012 as a legal adviser and later became general counsel. In 2017, President Donald Trump nominated him to be an FCC commissioner, a position confirmed by the Senate. He is known for supporting deregulation in telecommunications, promoting 5G technology, and advocating for limiting censorship by social media companies. Carr has also expressed views critical of China and is noted for his opposition to net neutrality protections. He became FCC Chair following Trump's 2024 election victory.
