Clover is a loyal, hardworking, maternal cart-horse in George Orwell's Animal Farm. She represents the working-class women and acts as a caretaker who looks out for the smaller and weaker animals on the farm. Clover is faithful to the Rebellion's ideals at first and supports the pigs' leadership, but as the story progresses, she grows increasingly suspicious of the pigs' corruption and the changes to the original principles of Animalism. Although she senses that the farm is no longer the egalitarian society it was meant to be, her inability to read well and her lack of a strong voice prevent her from opposing the pigs effectively. Clover is also closely connected to Boxer, another hardworking horse, and cares deeply for him, especially when he is injured. By the end of the story, Clover is disillusioned as she witnesses the pigs become indistinguishable from the oppressive humans they replaced, symbolizing the betrayal of the working class by those in power
