Lawrence O'Donnell is an American television anchor, actor, author, screenwriter, and liberal political commentator. He is best known as the host of "The Last Word with Lawrence O'Donnell," an opinion and news program on MSNBC that airs on weeknights. O'Donnell also has a notable background in television production and writing, having worked as a writer and producer for the NBC series "The West Wing," where he also made acting appearances. Additionally, he created and executive produced the NBC series "Mister Sterling." Before his television career, O'Donnell was involved in politics; he started as an aide to U.S. Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan and served as staff director for the Senate Finance Committee. He identifies as a "practical European socialist." O'Donnell was born in Boston in 1951, attended Harvard College, and has been active in media, politics, and writing throughout his career.
