Marco Rubio is an American Republican politician and diplomat currently serving as the 72nd United States Secretary of State since 2025. He previously represented Florida in the U.S. Senate from 2011 to 2025. Rubio was born on May 28, 1971, in Miami, Florida, to Cuban immigrant parents. He began his political career in Florida state politics before being elected to the U.S. Senate. He ran for the Republican nomination in the 2016 U.S. presidential election but dropped out after losing the Florida primary to Donald Trump. Rubio is known for his conservative positions and hawkish foreign policy, especially regarding Latin America and China. He has also served as acting national security advisor, making him the highest-ranking Hispanic American official in U.S. history.
