Rob Reiner is an American actor, director, producer, and political activist best known for both his television role on All in the Family and for directing several influential Hollywood films.
Basic biography
Rob Reiner was born Robert Reiner on March 6, 1947, in the Bronx, New York, and is the son of comedian, writer, and director Carl Reiner. He grew up around the entertainment industry, which helped shape his later career in acting and directing.
Acting career
Reiner first became widely known for playing Michael “Meathead” Stivic, Archie Bunker’s liberal son-in-law, on the TV sitcom All in the Family (1971–1979). This role earned him multiple Primetime Emmy Awards and established him as a major television actor. He has also appeared in numerous films, including roles in This Is Spinal Tap , Sleepless in Seattle , and The Wolf of Wall Street.
Directing career
Beginning in the 1980s, Reiner built a major directing career with a run of critically and commercially successful films. His best-known directing work includes This Is Spinal Tap (1984), Stand by Me (1986), The Princess Bride (1987), When Harry Met Sally… (1989), and A Few Good Men (1992).
Other work and activism
Reiner co-founded the production company Castle Rock Entertainment in 1987, which produced many films and television projects. He is also active in liberal and Democratic politics and various social causes, including work on issues such as same-sex marriage, media responsibility, and environmental conservation.
