Sudan Gurung is a 38-year-old Nepali civic leader and activist who is the president and founder of Hami Nepal, a youth-led non-governmental organization. He initially worked in event management as a DJ and nightclub owner but turned to activism after losing a child during the devastating 2015 Nepal earthquake. This traumatic event motivated him to organize disaster relief efforts, and he formed Hami Nepal to coordinate emergency response and rehabilitation for disaster-affected communities. Over time, Hami Nepal expanded into a broader platform for youth civic engagement and social activism. In 2025, Sudan Gurung became a prominent figure leading Gen Z youth protests in Nepal against the government's decision to ban social media. Under his leadership, Hami Nepal coordinated peaceful protests, using digital platforms to mobilize thousands of youths, employing symbolic actions like wearing school uniforms as a form of dissent. These protests escalated into a significant movement that contributed to political changes, including the resignation of Nepal's Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. Gurung is widely seen as a symbol of youth leadership and social change in Nepal.
