who is the new lds prophet

The new prophet of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is President Dallin H. Oaks. He is expected to succeed the late President Russell M. Nelson, who passed away on September 27, 2025. Dallin H. Oaks, the senior apostle, is in line to become the next president and prophet of the LDS Church following the traditional succession pattern where the senior apostle is chosen as the new church president after the death of the current one. President Oaks is 93 years old and has served as an apostle since 1984. The formal setting apart of the new president will occur after President Nelson's funeral.
