Tupac Shakur's mother was Afeni Shakur (born Alice Faye Williams). She was a political activist and a member of the Black Panther Party. Afeni Shakur was known for her activism, philanthropy, and for being the subject of Tupac's 1995 song "Dear Mama." She was born on January 10, 1947, and passed away on May 2, 2016. Afeni raised Tupac largely as a single mother after facing many struggles, including addiction and hardship, which Tupac honored in his music.
