Zubeen Garg was a renowned Indian singer, music director, composer, lyricist, music producer, actor, and filmmaker, primarily known for his work in Assamese, Bengali, and Hindi music and films. He was born on November 18, 1972, in Meghalaya, India, and passed away on September 19, 2025, in Singapore at the age of 52. Garg was an exceptionally versatile artist who sang over 38,000 songs in more than 40 languages and dialects. He was famous for his Bollywood hit song "Ya Ali" from the 2006 film "Gangster." Beyond music, he was also recognized for his honesty, social activism, and love for nature and animals, making him an iconic cultural figure particularly in Assam. He was also noted for being the highest-paid singer in Assam. In addition to singing, Garg was a multi-instrumentalist who played 12 different instruments, including the dhol, dotara, drums, guitar, harmonica, harmonium, mandolin, keyboard, and tabla. He was involved in acting, directing films, and producing music. His contributions helped shape Assamese culture and he was honored widely, with a career spanning 33 years and including numerous albums and film music contributions. His courageous social stance and artistic expression made him a beloved and influential personality till his death from drowning in Singapore during a live performance trip.
