Facebook was created in 2004 by Mark Zuckerberg along with four of his Harvard College roommates and classmates: Eduardo Saverin, Andrew McCollum, Dustin Moskovitz, and Chris Hughes. The platform was initially launched as TheFacebook.com at Harvard University and then expanded rapidly to other universities and eventually the public. Mark Zuckerberg was the primary developer and remained the executive leader of Facebook, which later rebranded as Meta Platforms in 2021.
