Lucid cars are made by Lucid Motors, an American luxury electric vehicle company headquartered in Newark, California. The company was originally founded as Atieva in 2007, focusing on electric vehicle batteries and powertrains, then rebranded as Lucid Motors in 2016 to produce its own vehicles. Lucid Motors is majority-owned by the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia, which invested $1 billion in 2018. Their cars, including the Lucid Air sedan, are primarily produced at their factory in Casa Grande, Arizona, which is the first purpose-built EV factory in North America. Lucid also has a factory in King Abdullah Economic City, Saudi Arabia. The company is led by CEO Marc Winterhoff as of 2025, having been founded and led for a time by Peter Rawlinson, former Tesla VP of Vehicle Engineering.
