2K Games is owned by Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc., an American video game holding company headquartered in New York City. Take-Two Interactive owns several major publishing labels, including 2K, Rockstar Games, and Zynga. The 2K label was created by Take-Two in January 2005 after acquiring the development studios Visual Concepts and Kush Games along with the 2K brand. Since then, 2K Games has operated as a wholly owned subsidiary under Take-Two Interactive, publishing many popular game franchises such as NBA 2K, BioShock, Borderlands, Civilization, and WWE 2K.
