Barstool Sports is currently owned 100% by its founder, Dave Portnoy. He bought the company back from Penn Entertainment in 2023 for $1 after Penn, which had acquired Barstool in a deal totaling $551 million, decided to part ways with the brand to focus on a new ESPN sports-betting deal. Portnoy has stated he will never sell Barstool Sports again and is now operating it independently.
