Bethpage Black is owned and operated by New York State. It is part of Bethpage State Park on Long Island, which was developed from an estate owned by the Yoakum family. The property was purchased by the New York State Park Authority in the early 1930s and converted into a public golf facility. The Black Course, designed by architect A.W. Tillinghast, is one of five championship courses at Bethpage State Park and is renowned as a publicly owned course that hosts major golf championships including the U.S. Open and the Ryder Cup.
