Burghley House is owned by the Burghley House Preservation Trust, a charitable trust established by the Cecil family. Since 1961 the Trust has owned and run the house, with ownership and administration remaining in the Cecil family’s hands through the trust mechanism. The estate and house continue to be a lived-in family home, with direct descendants of the Cecils maintaining a central role in its stewardship.
