Farm Boy is owned by Empire Company Limited, the parent company of the Sobeys grocery chain. Empire acquired Farm Boy in late 2018 for a total enterprise value of $800 million. Farm Boy operates as a separate company within Empire's structure, with its co-CEOs, including founder Jean-Louis Bellemare, retaining a 12% ownership stake and continuing to manage the business independently. Empire plans to support Farm Boy's growth and expansion, particularly in Ontario, without integrating it into its other grocery chains.
