The Kansas City Chiefs are owned by the Hunt family, with Clark Hunt serving as the team’s chairman and CEO and the primary operating owner.
Current ownership
The franchise is held by the four children of founder Lamar Hunt Sr.: Lamar Hunt Jr., Sharron Hunt, Clark Hunt, and Daniel Hunt, who each inherited an equal stake in the team after his death. Clark Hunt represents the family in NFL ownership meetings and has final authority over major team decisions, which is why he is commonly referred to as the team’s owner.
Brief history
Lamar Hunt Sr. founded the franchise (originally the Dallas Texans) and moved it to Kansas City as the Chiefs, keeping it in the Hunt family ever since. After Lamar’s death in 2006 and his wife Norma Hunt’s death in 2023, legal ownership consolidated fully among their children, maintaining continuous family control of the team.
