Rob Lowe played Sam Seaborn in The West Wing. Seaborn was the White House deputy communications director in President Jed Bartlet’s administration, and Lowe portrayed the character from the series premiere in 1999 through the middle of season four, later returning for the series finale.
Sam Seaborn’s Role
Sam was one of the show’s central political figures and worked closely with communications director Toby Ziegler. He helped write speeches, shape policy messaging, and defend the Bartlet administration during political crises. After leaving the White House, Sam returned near the end of the series as part of the presidential campaign led by Matt Santos, played by Jimmy Smits. In the finale, he became Santos’s deputy chief of staff.
