The next prophet of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) will be the most senior apostle following the death of the current president, Russell M. Nelson, who passed away in September 2025. The most senior apostle, and therefore the expected new prophet and president, is Dallin H. Oaks. He became an apostle in 1984 and has served as president of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. The formal selection of the new president will take place after President Nelson's funeral, following the church's long- standing tradition and belief that the Holy Ghost guides this spiritual selection process. Dallin H. Oaks is widely anticipated to be sustained by church members as the new prophet-president.
