The Battle of Lexington and Concord was ultimately won by the American colonial militia. Although the British troops initially faced resistance at Lexington where some colonists were killed, at Concord the colonial militias gathered in much larger numbers and forced the British to retreat back to Boston. The Americans' ability to mobilize and stand against British forces marked the beginning of the Revolutionary War and a significant colonial victory.
