Soleil, a Belgian Sheepdog from the Herding Group, won Best in Show at the 2025 National Dog Show, held on November 27 in Oaks, Pennsylvania. This six- year-old black-coated female outperformed over 1,900 dogs from more than 200 breeds, securing the top honor and a $20,000 prize. Handled by Daniel Martin, Soleil impressed judge Charlie Olvis with her composure, graceful movements, and ability to thrive in the large arena amid the crowd's energy.
She edged out a strong field of group winners, including George, an American Foxhound who took Reserve Best in Show from the Hound Group. Other finalists were Tyler, an English Setter (Sporting Group); Baby Joe, a Miniature Schnauzer (Terrier Group); Dino, a Giant Schnauzer (Working Group); Neal, a Bichon Frise (Non-Sporting Group); and Comet, a Shih Tzu (Toy Group).
This victory marks the first time a Belgian Sheepdog has claimed Best in Show at the National Dog Show, a tradition since 2002 that airs on NBC after the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. Soleil's win highlights her breed's elegance and herding instincts, as noted by co-host David Frei, who praised her confidence and seamless performance against seasoned competitors. The event, streamed on Peacock, featured hosts John O'Hurley, Mary Carillo, and Frei, celebrating canine excellence with around 2,000 participants.
