The Book of Enoch is attributed to Enoch, the great-grandfather of Noah, but it was not actually written by him. Scholars agree that the book is a pseudepigraphal work, meaning it was written by multiple unknown authors long after the time Enoch lived, probably between the 3rd century BCE and the 1st century CE. The book is a compilation of different texts written by various Jewish authors over several centuries. It was attributed to Enoch to lend authority and credibility to its teachings. The complete original version survives only in the Ethiopian Orthodox Church's canon, while fragments were also found among the Dead Sea Scrolls.
