Thomas the Tank Engine was created and written by Wilbert Vere Awdry, an English Anglican minister, railway enthusiast, and children's author. He invented the character during the 1940s to amuse his young son Christopher and published the first stories in the book "Thomas the Tank Engine" in 1946. The character and the associated books, known as The Railway Series, became widely popular and led to the famous television series Thomas & Friends.
