Jesus was buried in the tomb of Joseph of Arimathea, a wealthy man and secret disciple of Jesus who was a member of the Jewish council (Sanhedrin). After Jesus' crucifixion, Joseph of Arimathea asked Pilate for Jesus' body, took it down from the cross, wrapped it in linen, and laid it in his own new tomb hewn out of rock, rolling a large stone against the entrance.
