Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) are on lockdown today due to multiple "terroristic" threats received across several campuses. These threats caused institutions such as Virginia State University, Hampton University, Southern University, Bethune-Cookman University, Alabama State University, and others to enact lockdowns, cancel classes, and increase security measures to ensure the safety of students, staff, and faculty. The FBI is involved and has noted that many of these threats appear to be hoaxes, but schools are taking precautionary steps amid concerns over recent violence and threats targeting HBCUs nationwide. No injuries have been reported, and some lockdowns have been lifted, but heightened security and class suspensions remain in effect at many locations.
