MLB players are wearing the number 21 today to celebrate Roberto Clemente Day on September 15, 2025. As part of this league-wide recognition, all players, managers, coaches, and umpires wear a white "21" patch on their upper left chest. Additionally, players of Puerto Rican heritage, past Roberto Clemente Award recipients, and each club’s 2025 Clemente Award nominee have the option to wear No. 21 on their jerseys during games. The Pittsburgh Pirates, Clemente's team throughout his career, are wearing No. 21 across their roster. This tribute honors Roberto Clemente's legacy as a Hall of Famer, global humanitarian, and exceptional baseball player who died in a plane crash while delivering earthquake relief in 1972. The day also marks the beginning of Hispanic Heritage Month and highlights the impact of Latino players and culture in baseball.
