The name "Dodgers" originated from the team's early days in Brooklyn, New York, where they were initially known as the "Brooklyn Trolley Dodgers." This nickname came about around 1896 and referred to the city's residents who had to dodge the complex network of electric trolley cars running through Brooklyn to get to the ballpark. The team's name was eventually shortened from "Trolley Dodgers" to simply "Dodgers." The name stuck and became official in 1932 when the baseball writers chose "Dodgers" as the permanent team name. The Dodgers carried this name with them when they moved to Los Angeles in 1958.
