Chip Caray left the Atlanta Braves broadcasting position by his own choice to return "home" to St. Louis, where he grew up. He accepted a similar broadcasting role with the St. Louis Cardinals, attracted by the opportunity to work in his hometown and follow in the footsteps of his grandfather, legendary Cardinals broadcaster Harry Caray. This marked the end of a 46-year period in which a Caray had been part of the Braves' broadcasting team. Caray expressed no regrets about the move and enjoys being in a baseball-crazy city he grew up watching. His departure was partly driven by changes in his role with the Braves and the reduced number of games he covered, compounded by the strong personal pull to St. Louis. The Braves replaced him with Brandon Gaudin for the play-by-play announcer role.
