why did mrs. putnam contact tituba?

Mrs. Putnam contacted Tituba because she believed that Tituba had the ability to summon the spirits of the dead. Mrs. Putnam was desperate to find out who was responsible for the deaths of her seven infant children, all of whom died shortly after birth. She sent her daughter Ruth to Tituba to try to communicate with the spirits of her deceased children and uncover the identity of their murderer, as Mrs. Putnam suspected witchcraft to be involved.
