why do we observe veteran’s day?

Veterans Day is observed to honor and thank all individuals who have served in the United States Armed Forces, recognizing their sacrifices and contributions to the nation. It originated as Armistice Day to mark the end of World War I, with November 11 chosen because the armistice took effect at 11:00 AM on the eleventh day of the eleventh month in 1918. After World War II and Korea, the holiday was broadened and officially renamed Veterans Day in 1954 to honor all veterans, living and deceased, who have served in wartime or peacetime. The day is widely observed with ceremonies, parades, moments of reflection, and community activities that express gratitude and support for veterans and their families.
