Grandfather takes Toto to Saharanpur because Toto is very mischievous and does not allow the other pets to sleep at night. Since grandfather had to go to Saharanpur for some work (such as collecting his pension), and he could not take the risk of leaving Toto with his grandson or other family members, he decided to take Toto along with him. He carries Toto in a big black canvas kit-bag, which becomes Toto's new abode for the journey. The ticket collector at the railway insists on calling Toto a dog because there were no specific rules for monkeys, so Toto was classified as a dog for the purpose of paying the fare.
