Tommy Robinson uses a different name because his real name is Stephen Christopher Yaxley-Lennon. He adopted the pseudonym "Tommy Robinson" partly to hide his identity and past criminal history. The name "Tommy Robinson" was taken from a prominent member of the Luton Town MIGs, a football hooligan crew associated with Luton Town. Using this pseudonym helped him initially to conceal his true identity and criminal record, as well as to obscure his Irish roots associated with his real surname Lennon. Wealthy backers of the English Defence League also advised him to change his name for these reasons. He has used other names as well, including Andrew McMaster and Stephen Lennon, in various contexts.
