Hulu is not shutting down permanently, but the standalone Hulu app will be discontinued and phased out in 2026. This decision comes as part of Disney's strategy to fully integrate Hulu's content into the Disney+ app, creating a unified streaming platform. The combined app will feature a broad range of content including general entertainment, sports, news, and family programming, aiming to reduce churn, increase user engagement, and improve advertising opportunities. Disney acquired full ownership of Hulu in 2025, and the integration will simplify the streaming experience by consolidating Hulu and Disney+ into one app. Although the Hulu app will shut down, Hulu as a brand and its content—including originals, licensed shows, and live TV—will continue to be accessible through the Disney+ platform. Users will still have the option to subscribe to Hulu and Disney+ separately or as a bundle, but all content will be managed under one unified service by 2026. This move represents a shift in Disney's streaming strategy to enhance profitability, operational efficiency, and customer experience across its streaming services internationally and in the U.S. Hulu's content will also replace the Star brand internationally on Disney+ starting in late 2025.
