The Michigan football coach Sherrone Moore is suspended for three games across the 2025 and 2026 seasons due to his involvement in a sign-stealing scandal from the 2023 season. The suspension started with the game against Central Michigan on September 13, 2025, and includes the game against Nebraska on September 20, 2025, as well as the 2026 season opener against Western Michigan in Germany. The suspension was self-imposed by Michigan before the NCAA's final ruling, which added an additional game to the suspension due to Moore's lack of cooperation with the investigation, including deleting 52 text messages related to the scandal. During his suspension, Moore is barred from all team activities and contact with players and staff. Associate head coach Biff Poggi is serving as the interim head coach during Moore's suspension. The scandal involved impermissible scouting and sign-stealing orchestrated by a former staffer, Connor Stalions, and has resulted in significant penalties for the Michigan football program and individuals involved.
