Dolly Parton was not at the Grand Ole Opry 100 celebration in person because she was grieving the recent death of her husband of 58 years, Carl Dean. She did, however, appear via a pre-recorded video message and was honored with a star-studded tribute including performances of her song "I Will Always Love You." The emotional moment likely made attending in person too difficult for her at that time. Dolly has expressed that the tribute brought her to tears and helped ease some of her pain.
