Ian Watkins, the former lead singer of Lostprophets, was sentenced to 29 years in prison (with an additional six years on licence) in December 2013 after pleading guilty to a string of child sex offences. These offences included the attempted rape of a baby, sexual assault on a child under 13, and conspiracy to rape and sexually assault children under 13, as well as possessing indecent images of minors. The judge described the case as "plunging into new depths of depravity," with Watkins being labeled a "committed, organised paedophile" and one of the most dangerous sex offenders encountered by investigators.
Watkins was arrested after a drugs warrant was executed at his home in 2012, leading to the seizure of computers and devices that revealed extensive evidence of his criminal behavior.
He was serving his sentence at HMP Wakefield until his death in 2025 due to an assault by fellow inmates in prison.
